How Long is USMLE Step 2

What does Step 2 assess? Step 2 assesses the ability to apply the medical knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients. It further focuses on disease prevention.

Step 2 is a one-day exam. It consists of 8 test blocks of 60 minutes each. In total, the USMLE Step 2 takes 9 hours.

The USMLE provides 45 minutes of breaks between sections. Unused tutorial time and time saved from finishing a test block early is added to break time.
